Children in Year 3 will take part in the Sacramental Programme which is delivered by St. Matthew’s parish and supported in school. Parents and pupils are require to attend both Sacramental celebration Masses (usually around 7 throughout the year) and the preparation lessons beforehand. A timetable of these dates will be handed out at the initial meeting.

Children are required to dress in full school uniform during the sacraments of First Reconciliation and Confirmation. As some of you may ask about ‘Dress Code’ for First Holy Communion here there are some guidelines which we hope will help you in making your choices.

Girls and boys should be smartly dressed to reflect the solemn spiritual and joyous occasion that it is. This means that:

  • Jeans, T-shirts and sports shorts or shoes are not appropriate.
  • White dresses - simple and not dance dresses or ‘fancy dress’ is the order of the day for girls. There should be some sort of sleeve to cover the shoulders. Skirts should be long enough to cover the knee. A veil may be worn but please no princess or ‘fairy’ headdresses and no high heels on the feet or nail varnish on the fingers!
  • For boys, a suit with a white shirt and a red tie and sash should be worn. The sash is available from the school office. Alternatively, formal dark/grey trousers with a formal white shirt are acceptable. Coloured jackets or waistcoats should not be worn.
